Mines Probability Calculator
Estimate the mathematical chance of revealing a safe tile. For the full mechanics, read the Mines game rules.
Current result
Chance that the next tile is safe

20 safe tiles out of 25 unopened
Chance of revealing the next 3 selected tiles safely
49.57%
- Unopened tiles
- 25
- Safe tiles remaining
- 20
How is this calculated?
On this fixed board, there are 25 cells. If M is the mine count and K safe tiles have already been revealed, then remaining safe tiles are S = 25 - M - K and unopened tiles are U = 25 - K.
For the next safe tile: P = S / U. For a sequence of r selected tiles: P = C(S, r) / C(U, r). If the requested sequence is longer than the remaining safe tiles, the chance is 0%.
For the terms behind these values, see the Mines game rules and the guide to random outcomes and risk.

Probability FAQ
Does a previous safe tile change the next result?
It changes the remaining counts used in the probability calculation. It does not identify where a mine is or create a pattern that guarantees the next individual tile.
Why can the series probability be lower?
A series requires every selected tile in the sequence to be safe. The chance therefore combines each successive safe reveal, which is generally lower than the chance for one tile.
Can this calculator predict a safe tile?
No. It shows a proportion of remaining safe positions. It cannot determine the location of a mine or predict the result of a particular selection.
What if I choose more future tiles than safe tiles?
The result is 0%. It is not possible for every tile in that selected sequence to be safe when fewer safe tiles remain.
